Mary B - Bring FM Catholic Radio to BEHS - Catholic Radio in SC

Bringing FM to BE:  During the 2018-19 school year Bishop England High School (BEHS) has a unique opportunity to establish its own Low Power FM radio station.  Relying on technical assistance from Catholic Radio in South Carolina, BEHS will be the license holder and Catholic Radio in South Carolina will provide tailored programming for the BEHS and Charleston community.  With a broadcast antenna and transmitter maintained by Catholic Radio in South Carolina, FM Catholic Radio at BEHS will have clear radio signal coverage encompassing most of metro Charleston.

Once in place, Catholic Radio in South Carolina will provide ongoing technical support to enable the BEHS-FM station to develop its own radio programming.  These programs may include student-produced shows, musical performances, and sporting events.  BEHS-FM will become a cultural complement and media resource for sustaining and promoting the Catholic community of Charleston.

Catholic Radio in South Carolina:  Catholic Radio in South Carolina, Mediatrix, SC, Inc. has grown in response to Pope John Paul II’s call for a “New Evangelization.”  In 2003 a group of faithful lay Catholics established Mediatrix SC, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.  Mediatrix currently broadcasts Catholic content on WLTQ 730-AM in Charleston and WCKI 1300-AM in Greer/Greenville.  With the permission of Bishop Robert Guglielmone, in 2013, Catholic Radio in South Carolina began assisting Catholic schools across the state in establishing school-based Low Power FM stations.  Currently, seven Low Power FM stations are in operation.

You Can Help:   The one-time start-up, equipment, and licensing and two-years of operating expenses amount to a very modest $50,000.  We are asking friends of Bishop England, families, alumni, and Catholics across Charleston to join us in bringing FM to BE.  We are currently seeking pledges for this project.  If you are able to provide support for this project, please e-mail Frank Dirks.

Imagine turning the radio dial and…

    • Listening to stories of faith produced by BEHS students and featuring BE students and alumni
    • Listening musical performances by BEHS students
    • Listening to BEHS sports
    • Listening to lessons of faith offered by the clergy and religious in Charleston

Imagine a Catholic community radio resource as vibrant as the place it calls home.

Help bring FM Catholic Radio to Bishop England!

Mary B - CCP Event - Conor Gallagher

Join us for an evening of Catholic Christian fellowship, faith, and ideas on October 25, 2018.  Mr. Conor Gallagher will share his lecture, “Still Amidst the Storm” followed by a dinner.

In Mark’s Gospel (4:37-41) we see the apostles trapped in a mighty storm and their fishing boats on the bring of capsizing. And Jesus slept. This confused, scared,
and even angered the apostles who could not fight back the storm. Author, CEO and father of twelve, Mr. Conor Gallagher, relates this short passage to the anxieties of modern life. The chaos of our lives and the demands of those with whom we live and work can leave us feeling as helpless as those apostles in the boat. The world, however, only offers fake solutions to these real problems: over-medication, spurts of carnal pleasure, and “time management” techniques that never suffice.

Conor Gallagher looks to three remedies that underlie all others: First, encountering God in the present moment while avoiding past resentment and future
anxiety; second, listening to the voice of God only found in exterior and interior silence amidst the constant drum of deafening noise; and third, resting in serene
stillness as the stir-crazy spirit of the world goes by.

Mr. Conor Gallagher earned both his Masters in Philosophy and Juris Doctoris from The Catholic University of America. He began his professional career as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert J. Conrad, Chief Judge of the Western District of North Carolina. He has been an adjunct Professor of Philosophy and Political Philosophy at Belmont Abbey College, and is currently the Executive Director of the Benedict Leadership Institute at Belmont Abbey College.  He is also Publisher of Saint Benedict Press and TAN Books.  He and his wife Ashley, are the proud parents of twelve wonderful children (all homeschooled!!).

For the first, last, and only time, Randall Goldman, formerly a local leader of the hospitality and tourism industry will share publicly how a man can be brought down by the world but raised up for the greater glory of Christ.

Join Carolina Catholic Professionals for our First Friday Networking and Fellowship Lunch at the Diocese Chancery Meeting Hall on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 11:45am to 1:15pm.  This event is open to both members and non-members.  Lunch will be $15 for members and $25 for non-members.

Our scheduled speaker, Tim Sinclair, Director of Business Development Webster Rogers, LLP and member of the finance council at Saint Clare of Assisi Parish graciously has offered to share his time with Randall for his important witness to Christ.

Frank Dirks - Daughters of Saint Paul

Sister Margaret leads a discussion on the role of the laity in Church. She shared a quote from Saint John Paul II: “The laity should be conscious of their own standing in the Church: not as mere recipients of doctrine and the grace of the Sacraments, but as active and responsible agents of the Church’s mission to evangelize…”
